“2024”
This painting tells the personal story of the artist after surviving cancer 3 times and undergoing 6 complex surgeries. The work ‘2024’ uses complex visual storytelling and mixed media to narrate the artist’s most turbulent year of the past decade, using interesting clues to encourage the viewer to guess what exactly is going on in the story.
As a calligrapher with over a decade of experience, Fahad goes back to his roots to seek inspiration for a new script he developed personally from scratch. The script draws inspiration from ancient Egyptian hieroglyphs and a few West African scripts, fused with his Nupe heritage for this unique style.
The work is intended to be expressive, provocative, and deeply engaging. It serves as solidarity not just for the artist, but for every cancer survivor out there to know their pain is felt, and their voices are heard.
