Title: ‘2025’ framed art print
Size : 36 x 48 inches
Medium: Art print (original painting available)
Year: 2025
Description: This print narrates the events that occur in my personal life after a life-threatening surgical operation and surviving cancer 3 times after undergoing 6 complex surgeries. The work ‘2025’ uses complex visual storytelling, mixed media, and subtle clues to encourage the viewer to guess what happens in the story.
As a calligrapher with over a decade of experience, I’ve gone back to my native roots in Bida, Nigeria, to seek inspiration for a new script I developed from scratch. The script draws inspiration from ancient Egyptian hieroglyphs and a few West African scripts, fused with my Nupe heritage for this unique style.
The work depicts heartbreak, losing loved ones, and friendships. Travel destinations, hospitals, treatment, and various medical terminology. The print is intended to be expressive, provocative, and deeply engaging. It serves as solidarity not just for me, but for every cancer survivor out there, to know their pain is felt and their voices are heard.
