This painting has appeared in numerous exhibitions and is part of a series of artworks for the Falligraphy collection. Emerging from the

combination of ‘calligraphy’ and ‘architecture’, the collection draws inspiration from the satisfying geometry found in renaissance architecture (which are often symmetrical).

The calligrams mimic floor plans of iconic buildings, mostly studying Leonardo da Vinci’s

obsession with octagons (in my case simplified into circles and squares). The text contains a

quote by DaVinci that reads ‘Art is never finished, only abandoned’, written in Calligraffiti.

My style of calligraffiti is derived from modifying letters of Textura Quadrata, a script belonging

to the black letter family (also known as gothic font). A modern adaptation I have worked on for

several years to refine, yet still a work in progress.
